50th Wedding Anniversary Party Ideas

Tuesday, July 31st, 2007

By Gail Leino Celebrating a 50th Wedding Anniversary is recognizing a huge accomplishment by any standards. Two people who have spent a half of a century with each other has certainly seen all the ups and downs life can throw at a married couple and yet, together, they have persevered. The 50th Wedding Anniversary is referred to as the golden anniversary because gold is considered to be symbolic of both wealth and optimism. In addition, gold is considered to be beautiful, strong and yet resistant to corrosion. The flower used to symbolize the 50th Wedding Anniversary is the violet. Violets are said to be indications of virtue, a love returned, and faithfulness. Certainly, when those attributes are considered, the violet is the perfect flower to represent the 50th Wedding Anniversary. These traditional elements can help set the perfect stage for a 50th wedding anniversary party. Begin by selecting ivory table cloths. Then in the center of each table place an opened black, violet, burgundy or navy cloths or lace handkerchiefs. Then, sprinkle some gold metallic confetti on the darkened cloth center. The contrast of the dark fabric against the ivory table cloths will add an extra dimension of shine and glitter to the confetti sprinkles. Easy centerpieces can be made out of ivory colored pillar candles placed upon golden plates. A ring of golden tulle and small violets can be tied around the base of the candle. At the base of each candle put one photo of the honored couple from some time during their marriage in a golden frame. Each table will have a different picture so guests will be encouraged to move around and mingle a bit while looking at the couples photographic history. Prior to the party, have the guests provide you with a couple of their most vivid memories of the couple and bind them into a handmade book that commemorates the evening and their long-standing friendships with the guests. As you are preparing to toast the couple of honor, consider sharing a few of the shorter stories with the guests. Take time to plan the menu to suit what the couple likes a favorite menu over the past five decades or a remake of the original first date menu. Either will introduce a fun trip down memory lane. Chocolate party favors wrapped in golden ribbons and foils will make excellent party favors for the guests that have came to share the day. Do You Need Mortgage Payment Protection Insurance?

Monday, July 30th, 2007

By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Martin_Lukac]Martin Lukac When buying a home, there are many things that go into your mortgage. On your good faith estimate, you may see several types of insurance that you don’t even know what are. Both you and your lender want you to keep your home. The lender does not want you to default, it cost money to foreclose. That is why they ask for so many different types of insurance. For example, if you put less than 20% down, you will be required to pay for private mortgage insurance. This insurance is purely for the lender, not for you. But one type of insurance that may be offered to you is mortgage insurance. This protects both the bank and your family. If you pass away, the insurance policy will pay off the remainder of your mortgage balance. Your family gets to keep the home and the bank gets its money. You may also be offered this insurance on your auto loans, secured loans, signature loans and credit cards. The same idea applies to all of these loans. In the case of your death, the policy pays off the debt. But you shouldn’t just jump for this type of coverage. It depends on your situation. My parents had it on three of my father’s credit cards. They did not have life insurance as my father was quite elderly and not in great health. Their credit cards were there only debt. When he passed, the insurance paid these cards. Yes, my mother probably paid the amount covered to the company in premiums, but it was a nice situation for her to have them all taken care of. She didn’t have to dip into her savings. Personally, my husband and I have life insurance. We don’t need mortgage insurance because we have adequate life insurance coverage to meet any future needs in the case of one of us passing. If you already have insurance coverage, you don’t need to pay for dual coverage. If you don’t already have life insurance, is mortgage insurance a good idea? Remember that the bank is a money lender, not an insurance provider. You are more likely to have better premiums and coverage through term life insurance than from the bank. Also, the premiums on your mortgage payment protection, also called MPP, remain the same throughout the life of your mortgage. But the balance of your mortgage is decreasing. You are paying the same for less coverage. Doesn’t make a lot of sense. The most important thing to remember is that the mortgage insurance will only take care of your mortgage. If you pass on, there will still be other bills to be paid. It is a good idea to forgo the mortgage insurance and take out life insurance, if possible. If you aren’t able to get life insurance due to various medical reasons, then by all means, protect your mortgage. Words That Work as Hard as You

Sunday, July 29th, 2007

By D. Menikoff Design is important. No one will deny that. However, it’s the message itself - no matter what font or background color you use that is the point. Let’s look at that message. What does your content say about you? Does it reflect your most current work? Does it make people pick up the phone, place the order, buy the book? It should. Those words should work as hard as you do. They can’t just sit and wait for a pair of eyes to light upon them. They need to transform browsing into a call to action. Choosing a Method of Delivery Content doesn’t travel on it’s on. You have to choose the right vehicle to deliver it. That’s what marketing and promotional materials are for. What have your materials done for you lately? Do they look and feel dated? Has your business changed so that they no longer reflect what you do? Maybe they just don’t hang together - the result of piecemeal development done on an “as needed” basis. It’s time to give them a good going over and create an integrated and true reflection of what you have to say and what you offer your audience. By ensuring all your marketing components have a similar look and feel as well as a consistency of message and tone, you are reinforcing your brand and image. Pieces that are all over the place water than branding down and often confuse consumers. Confused consumers call someone else. If you’re a start up, you may not have existing marketing materials. So where do you begin? Newsletters, press releases, a Web site, e-cards, sales kits, direct mail — the array of marketing or promotional pieces you have to chose from can be daunting. Think carefully about the message you want to get out and relationship you are trying to build with your market those decisions will help guide you to the right marketing tools. And after you’ve chosen your tools, you need to make sure they all work as hard individually as they do together. One of the most powerful communications tools these days is, of course, the Internet. Word Magnets The Internet makes it possible to deliver more information, quickly, to more people these days than ever before. Is it any wonder then that the number of sites is growing by leaps and bounds every day - every hour? Of course not. Making a Web site is easy. Making a Web site an effective and useful communication tool is a bit more involved. Top-notch effective Web content is absolutely vital if you want to get the most out of your online real estate. It’s the key to getting people to your site, converts browsers to users and serves as the hook that keeps them coming back. First you have to show the potential customers the way and online, that means SEO. SEO (search engine optimization) means that your text isn’t just sitting on the screen. It’s working for you even before users get to the site. Careful word selection, placement of text within the site and meta data selection will affect your search engine placement. Where you come out in the results of a search engine means everything when it comes to driving traffic from search engines to your site. You probably know this yourself from using sites like Google. Our SEO plans will give you a head start before you even announce the site to the world. But once someone gets to your site, how will you keep them coming back? If you want customer relationships that produce real results the ongoing and original content is the answer. A frequently updated supply of content adds value to your site and offers your audience just a little bit more than they can get elsewhere. However, don’t wait for them to come to you? Reach out to them. Bring users back to the site on a regular basis for new feature articles or essays. Send out monthly or regular newsletters. Engaging your site visitors more frequently with updates and original content is a great - cost effective - way to build and enhance relationships with your target audience. So choose your words carefully, dress them up nicely and send them on their way. If you’ve got the right ones, they will deliver. Memories of Mother’s Day Past

Thursday, July 26th, 2007

By Michaela Scherr Yes, I remember well the cold tinned prawns on my plate with a lone crunchy potato that had been zapped in the microwave, for breakfast. Once there was even a rollmop (German description of a pickled herring fillet) on my plate and a side dish of dill cucumbers. I love German food, except for breakfast. Years ago I loathed pancakes, as a matter of fact they would make me gag, a left over from my childhood when I wasnt allowed to leave the table until everything was eaten, including a soup broth made with pancake pieces ugh! The thought of it still makes me feel squeamish. On this particular Mothers Day my very young daughter decided to make me pancakes for breakfast. The breakfast arrived with great fanfare and I did indeed feel very special. I looked down at the plate and saw the pancake. The pancake was char grilled on one side and soft and runny on the other. It was at this where I felt like a bad mum. I knew this was put together with much love; I simply couldnt eat it. Several Mothers Days later a cake was lovingly baked for me. This cake was so bad it was totally inedible and had to be smuggled into the rubbish bin because not even the dog would eat it. Many years later and a younger brother added, I am pleased to see that nothing has changed in regards to her culinary skills, some things shall always remain constant. Fortunately these days her younger brother bakes delicious cakes. On Mothers Day I have a very patient family. With clenched teeth and drooped shoulders they smile at me when I say How about we go somewhere to eat? What about driving up to the mountains? Sometimes I swear I hear muffled words hissed like pointless, aimless, stress, and be nice to your mother! In recent years, weve driven around the Gold Coast hinterland in Queensland Australia in the futile search for food on Mothers Day. You would think we would have learned our lesson. We walk then drive around for ages to find somewhere or something to eat. Once we discovered a small restaurant hidden away (I know why) so we paid for our buffet lunch only to discover there was next to nothing left. The following Mothers Day we again drove to the Gold Coast without booking a table and so we found ourselves going from restaurant to restaurant in a futile search for somewhere to eat. We settled for takeaway instead. There have also been many Mothers Days spent with breakfasts or lunches along our coastal regions, spending time wandering through art and craft markets, shopping, the movies, or simply spending time hanging out with the family. Sadly these days we are not often together as a family. It will still be a wonderful day spent with my husband and son however my daughter and grandson both live far away in another city in a different State. So today I find myself reflecting on Mothers Days Past and it makes me smile. There are so many fond memories; there has been so much laughter and so much love. Mothers Days are special to me because of the children in my life; they are the tops, I love them and I know they love me. Do You Mean To Say That After All These Years There Has Never Been Any Advertising Accountability?

Tuesday, July 17th, 2007

By Paul Ashby Then please tell me how they get away with saying “Advertising works”.A recent report by America’s Association of National Advertisers claims, “Marketing accountability is still often an activity trapped within the silo of the Marketing function”. It would seem that the findings underscore last summers “Marketing Accountability Survey” in which 60% of respondents reported no cross-functional involvement whatever within their company! And so the long predicted death of advertising agencies as we know them creeps ever closer! Now the ANA, to add salt to the wound(s), is urging the introduction of TV ratings for individual commercials citing the need for greater accountability in a medium where $70 billion (Euro 53.07bn; 36.29bn) is spent annually on time. And this at a time when it is becoming more and more an open secret that people don’t like to watch ads (if they really ever did!). The combination of the Internet and DVRs have opened up a Pandora’s BoxPeople know what life is like without the traditional advertising model, and there’s no going back. Nowadays trying to force people to accept interruption is only going to turn them off even more. However the threat of TV commercial ratings must send a chill of despair through AdLand. Already questions are being raised about the effectiveness of commercials, however a bigger threat is emerging, best summed up in that lovely little wordClutter! The rising blizzard of commercial messages sweeping through TV shows and other traditional and non-traditional communications channels, has become a blinding, deafening force heavily cutting into the overall effectiveness of advertising (if there ever was any effectiveness in the first place!) . Yet little is being done to quantify the massive financial drain of clutter on marketing campaigns or, even more importantly, organise a practical solution to the problem. There has been an answer to all of AdLand’s problems and it has been around for years, unfortunately the advertising industry, being wrapped up in its delusional beliefs of “creativity, reach & frequency” vehemently rejected this solutioncalledinteractive marketing communication. Totally accountable, totally effective, totally measurable, and totally lacking any of the pretentious communications nonsense so beloved by the advertising agency world it did solve, and would have evolved, into the perfect solution for everybody within the marketing mix. The Client, The Product, The Retailer, and, last but not least, the Consumer. But the agencies never took delivery of the concept and totally rejected the whole rational behind it, despite a huge investment in independent research that proved conclusively that Interactive Communication, properly executed, was far more effective and cost efficient that any other form of commercial communication. It is also practical, down-to-earth, and uses a readily comprehensible and verified mechanism to expand the relevance and salience of advertising and other forms of marketing communications. It can be applied to all major media and to various other forms of communication, including new media. There is no theoretical reason why it should not also be applied to packaging designs or product literature. So let us review the simplistic solution to all your marketing communications needs, the basic elements of interactive communication are very simple, as all communication should be. The target audience or any part of them are provided with a Game, comprising a Quiz together with multiple choice answers. This takes the reader/viewer through the detail of a commercial or advertisement and focuses their interest and attention on the products selling points. The questionnaire is (usually) presented as an exercise in getting the publics opinions about the products. The effect is to combine the techniques of programmed learning and game playing to fix the advertising message in consumers minds. The programme is very flexible and can be distributed by mail, door-to-door, as a handout in shopping malls, or as a newspaper or magazine insert. The traditional, though now out-dated, model of communication against which advertising has been judged is a one-way process whereby a Sender sends a message to a Receiver, who is then expected to absorb and act upon it. Although any consumer-aware advertising person knows well that consumers use ads, rather than the reverse, the practice in most agencies remains the traditional one of pushing ads out towards the market and hoping for a response. In the face of growing clutter of advertising messages and the increasing ability of consumers to screen out unwanted commercials and ads., there is also a growing problem for advertisers in breaking through the surrounding noise. By presenting advertisements in the form of a Game it alters the consumers perception to the content making the communication process far more effective, by providing an enjoyable mechanism for consumers to become involved with the brand and its advertising message. This meets the desire, evident among consumers, to open up a dialogue with at least some of the manufacturers or service companies whose products they buy; and also feeds consumers evident wish to be better informed about what it is they are being asked to buy. By getting consumers to make a commitment to finding out more about an advertisers offer, the interactive technique can create the conditions for positive attitudes towards the advertiser and positive learning about the product advertised. In addition to providing this encouragement for consumers to focus on the brand and to develop for themselves the steps of the argument that should lead to a purchase the technique can provide the advertiser with valuable feedback about both the product and its advertising. This is a dialogue that can benefit both sides, and be seen to be doing so. By its very nature, the technique is totally accountable, so much so that it is, without a doubt the most heavily research concept in the history of marketing communication. Many of the worlds largest independent research companies have measured the incremental increases that just one exposure to an interactive programme can bring. In fact in excess of 5 million has been invested in independent research in over six demographically diverse countries. This research proves, conclusively, that just one exposure to an interactive “Event” is substantially more effective in all key measurements, including sales, than the reach frequency/creativity model espoused by non-accountable Advertising Agencies! Paul Ashby pioneered interactive communication to the advertising and marketing communities some twenty-five years ago. The communication issues he addresses have been neglected during the explosive grown of advertising in the 60s, 70s and 80s, these are Cognitive Dissonance, Selective Retention and Selective Exposure. Would you like to discover the incredible results to be attained by using interactive communication? One Word More or Less

Saturday, July 14th, 2007

By Vlady Peters Back in the days when pyramids were still being built, losing a war brought with it retribution. Since every nation, and even every city, had its own gods, the conqueror would sometimes adopt the vanquished foes gods and place them in his own arsenal of armoury. After all, was the winners thought, as long as the god was being worshipped, what cared he as to who was worshipping him. And you could never have enough gods on your side. However, these were the more benign victors. The more ruthless ones wanted no part of anything belonging to the vanquished. And, indeed, they did everything to expunge their very existence in the pages of time. Temples, gods, the very name of the gods, would be destroyed or cut out from any surface where the god was mentioned. Although we would like to think that time has brought enlightenment, and no one in his/her right mind would try to obliterate that which has obviously existed, we know such is not the case. We have seen the instances of books whose ideas and philosophies we have not agreed with, being burned in public places as if these thoughts and philosophies have never been part of the human experience. Closer to our time, like right now, we are going through the process of political correctness where childrens books by such a writer as Enid Blyton are either censored or modified because, written as they were in different times with different accepted standards, they offend todays sensibilities. In some parts of the world we no longer use the word spinster as denoting a persons marital status, because of the perceived derogatory connotations. Perceived is the right word, for the word itself has nothing belittling about it. The word spinster was derived from what most home-bound women used to do spin. Remember the story of Snow White? She was a spinster who used to spin. In some parts of the world, when a girl married, the groom would enter her house and ceremoniously burn her spinning wheel. Although this suggests to the modern mind that from that point of time she stopped spinning, we know that isnt true. What she stopped from doing was spinning in her fathers house. She would still continue to spin in her husbands house. The burning was symbolic, denoting the end of a life in one setting, to the beginning of a life in another.
